Drainage systems can be defined as foul (takes toilet and household waste), storm (takes rainwater) or combined (takes both foul and storm).
In most towns, cities and villages the drains will run into a main sewer which then runs to a sewage works.
In rural areas the drains may run into septic tanks instead as it is not feasible for main sewers to operate.
